Work Rights For Students

China Daily reported that they can now work part-time during their studies, according to a statement by the country’s Education Ministry.

International students in China with residence permit are allowed to take part-time jobs or internships outside the campus as long as they obtain approval from their academic institutions and the entry and exit administrative authorities.

Post-study Employment Rights

In early 2017, the central government introduced a program for international students with postgraduate degrees or who had attended “well-known” universities to obtain Chinese work permits after graduation.

Previously, international students and those with degrees obtained overseas had to have a minimum of two years’ work experience outside China before they could apply for a work visa.

Long term Stay

When you decide to stay longer in the country because you want to continue your study, you can go to the embassy and apply for an extension of your study visa. Most of the time it will not be a problem, as long as you have a university declaration as proof.

But if you want to stay longer because you got a job offered, different rules apply. In this case, you need to apply for a work visa called Visa Z, and both the employer and you need to meet the conditions.

Dependents Stay

If your parents, spouse, and children under 18 years old want to come to China to visit you or live with you, they can apply a dependent visa.

They can apply to extend the dependent visa in the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau as well.

Although it is not required by the Ministry of Education of China, you may want to consider an insurance plan that also includes medical evacuation, repatriation and emergency assistance, since not all hospitals and clinics in China are equipped with western standard medical infrastructure.
